Medi-Cal
Medi-Cal offers free or low-cost health coverage for California residents who meet eligibility requirements. Medi-Cal has always covered low-income children, pregnant women and families. Medi-Cal benefits include medical, dental, vision, and limited mental health services. Under Medi-Cal there are many different programs for the elderly, disabled or blind individuals.

Medicare
Medicare is a federal insurance program. To be eligible and individual must be over the age of 65, have certain disabilities, end stage renal disease and be a Legal Permanent Resident or U.S. Citizen. An individual is first eligible to enroll three months before their 65th birthday, the month of their birthday and three months after their 65th birthday. If the individual is receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement, they will automatically be enrolled into Medicare. Disabled individuals under the age of 65 are automatically enrolled into Medicare the month after they have received Social Security disability benefits for 24 consecutive months.
