Our Team
Amalia Chandley
A dynamic, passionate and dedicated individual, our founder and Executive Director created Central Health Access Assisters out of a community need for healthcare insurance. With over a million uninsured people in California, she wanted to close the gap and help individuals access quality routine, diagnostic and emergency health care that is affordable and patient-centered.
Her true passion lies in assisting individuals who are dual-eligible for Medicare and Medi-Cal, a demographic that often faces significant barriers to accessing healthcare. She understands the unique challenges low-income seniors encounter in navigating a complex system, from comprehension to actual access to care. While she also works with families to secure Covered California Insurance and all Medicare plans, her focus has always been on those who need the most support. She has poured her heart and life into her community, advocating tirelessly for those who deserve a voice in their healthcare journey.
CHAA’s proactive approach to finding personal, needs-based solutions is just what Californians’ deserve. She has created a team that carries the same energy and spirit to advocate for those individuals without a voice. They are giving the power back to the clients
Sue Wonacott
In Loving Memory of Sue Wonacott: A Cherished Friend and Colleague
It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Sue Wonacott, fondly known to many as Momma Sue. Sue's warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication touched the lives of everyone she met. Her remarkable 18-year tenure in the health insurance industry, including 12 years at Farmers Insurance, is a testament to her commitment to helping others navigate the complexities of health insurance.
Sue's passion for serving the community led her to join Central Health Access Assisters (CHAA), where she leveraged her expertise to broaden our reach across Kern County and Central California. Her work here reinforced our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sue was a vibrant soul with a deep love for animals. A huge proponent of dog rescues, Sue's compassion extended to all living creatures. Sue and her daughter Amy shared a special bond, spending cherished moments together as avid equestrians and caring for their beloved animals. Amy was the light of Sue's life, and Sue delighted in sharing stories about her daughter with anyone who would listen.
Sue's dedication didn't stop at her career and family. She spent many years as a teacher, imparting wisdom and nurturing young minds. Her love for gardening was evident in the beautiful, flourishing spaces she created. Sue’s garden was a reflection of her care and attention, much like the relationships she cultivated throughout her life.
Sue and her husband John shared a love for travel that took them to many wonderful places around the world. One of Sue’s fondest memories was visiting the Grand Tetons, a place she cherished for its breathtaking beauty and the special moments it provided them.
With Amy Wonacott's blessing, I am honored to take over Sue's book of business and continue her legacy. For those who have had the pleasure of being Sue's clients, I promise to uphold the exceptional service and dedication you’ve come to expect. Your trust is invaluable, and I am committed to maintaining the high standards Sue set.
Now that Sue has passed, she is reunited with her beloved husband, John. Sue's memory will forever be a part of CHAA, and her legacy will continue to inspire us all. We encourage everyone to stay connected and share your stories of Sue, as we celebrate the life of an incredible woman who made a lasting impact on us all.
